Here we report a new and facile strategy of lignin modification with sustainable levulinic acid to introduce active ketone group. The obtained lignin derivativeexhibited significantly improved solubility and could be utilized to produce polymers such as high-performance polyimine thermosets via Schiff base reaction with diamines.
