Encouraging mechanical reinforcement in polycarbonate nanocomposite films via incorporation of melt blending prepared polycarbonate graft graphene oxide

Graft modification of graphene was facilely achieved by transesterification during melt blending processing between graphene oxide (GO) and polycarbonate (PC). The prepared PC-graft-GO was found to be a high-efficient reinforcing nanofiller, up to 49% increment in tensile strength of PC nanocomposite films was observed at a content of 1.0% wt.% PC-graft-GO. The reinforcement is caused not only by the bearing effect of graphene itself but also by the nucleating crystallization effect of the PC-graft-GO.
