Dr. Shuai Wu will start the position of Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University in Fall 2025. Dr. Wu''''s research sits at the crossroads of mechanics, materials science, and advanced manufacturing. Leveraging multi-material and multi-physics control, optimization-/machine learning�Cdriven design, and additive manufacturing, the group creates next-generation reconfigurable and adaptable systems to tackle grand challenges in robotics, precision healthcare, and sustainability.
Dr. Wu received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2024, where his research focused on smart materials, active metamaterials, and soft robotics. His research led to over twenty-eight publications, including eight first-author and eight co-first-author ones in top-tier journals such as PNAS, Sci. Adv., Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., Adv. Intell. Syst., and ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces. Dr. Wu was invited to be a reviewer for journals including Matter, Nature Communications, Journal of Applied Mechanics, Soft Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, and Scientific Reports. Dr. Wu was the recipient of the Stanford Juan C. Simo Thesis Award (2024), the ASME Applied Mechanics Division Student Presentation Competition - 1st Place (2024), and the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad (2023). Before his Ph.D., Dr. Wu earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego (2018) and a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from Southwest Jiaotong University (2017).
